Summary. The article reveals the problem of modern conditions of education in educational pedagogical institutions, where the opportunity to study is provided for those who do not have a music education. It is noted that the initial stage of learning to play the piano is associated with many difficulties due to the necessary skills and abilities to play the piano for professional performance of musical works. The article considers several types of skills needed for future professional activity: motor, cognitive, theoretical and practical. It is noted that the most difficult for a music teacher is the ability to select by ear and transpose. The lack of these skills further limits the possibilities of conducting music lessons and extracurricular activities in general secondary education. It is emphasized that from the very beginning of education, students need to make an installation on the musical performance of works. Therefore, it is very important from the first lessons to develop the ability to reveal the figurative content of the work, to convey stylistic features, to show mastery of form. The author notes that students during their studies should consolidate some basic skills: theoretical understanding of the work; stopping attention on certain elements of the musical fabric (listen to the sound of melodies, undertones, connecting episodes); constant listening to the performance of a musical work, awareness of the expressiveness in accordance with the content of the work; feeling and understanding of the process of development of musical thought, taking into account all the elements of expression; coverage of the form of the work, attention to the culminations and caesuras, tempo and dynamic contrasts, figurative content. The author recommends that teachers choose a technically and artistically and emotionally accessible repertoire that will be able to interest and encourage students to play the piano.
