Abstract

Summary. A foreign language teacher’s self-presentation is an important tool for his or her professional development and formation of his/her positive professional image. The purpose of this study is to consider the problem of self-presentation of a foreign language teacher in the context of remote education. An attempt is being made to explore the channels, the basic methods and principles of the foreign language teacher’s self-presentation. The urgent transition of the educational process in higher education institutions to the remote form has changed the usual format of interaction “teacher-student”, which was mainly being implemented before, during and after face-to-face classes. The technologically mediated Internet environment limits certain aspects of nonverbal communication, which is a significant part of image forming information, forcing the teacher to rely on the tools of self-presentation available in such conditions. The article analyzes the problems of self-presentation of a foreign language teacher in the conditions of synchronous and asynchronous communication. Features of foreign language teacher’s self-presentation during the online lesson are considered. Its complexity is a real-time communication through technological means of online communication when there is no possibility to think carefully of every word. Сorrespondingly, the teacher’s self-presentation through non-real-time interaction is professional online communities, distance learning platforms, scientific platforms, messengers. Due to the analysis of scientific research, it is established that the teacher’s active social presence, his/her frankness and immediacy are the main principles of self-presentation. In accordance to the principles, the methods of the foreign language teacher’s self-presentation are singled out, namely: designing an educational product in the conditions of the Internet environment, continuous evaluation and the increase of communication channels.
