THE FORMATION OF SOCIAL AND CIVIC COMPETENCE IN CHILDREN OF PRESCHOOL AGE: MODERN VECTORS

Abstract

The author of the article has characterized social and civic competence and outlined modern vectors that influence its formation in children of preschool age. It has been emphasized that preschool age is a period of active social development when children learn to interact with others, understand the rules of behavior and form their values, begin to realize their belonging to society, the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people, the necessity of tolerant attitude towards representatives of different nationalities and cultures, which is extremely important and relevant in the context of acute challenges of today. The article has presented the most relevant definitions of social, civic and socio-civic competence by national scientists. The author is convinced that social and civic competence in preschool age is the foundation for the formation of an active and responsible citizen. We see the importance of this competence in the fact that it: promotes the socialization of the child (helps the child to adapt to life in society, establish and maintain relationships with other people; develops moral qualities (empathy, compassion, respect for others, tolerance, honesty, justice, etc. ); fosters patriotic feelings (love for the Motherland, respect for national traditions and values of both one's own and other peoples, etc.); forms a civic position (teaches a child to understand his or her rights and responsibilities, participate in the life of the team, contribute to a common cause); develops partnership skills (teamwork, ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, etc.). The modern vectors of the problem under research, which reflect the changes in society caused by the war and in educational approaches that should be taken into account by preschool education specialists in the process of forming social and civic competence in children, are: inclusive education and intercultural competence, consideration of the phenomenon of emotional intelligence in the work with preschoolers, formation of national consciousness in the conditions of war.
