Abstract

The article highlights current approaches to the formation of intercultural competence and interaction of students in the context of modern globalization processes. It is emphasized that intercultural interaction, communication and dialogue are an important means of motivation for selfdevelopment and social activity. Possession of intercultural competence in the European dimension is considered as one of the requirements for the professional competence of future specialists. The author emphasizes the important role of international and Ukrainian legal documents that contain the fundamental principles of intercultural interaction, in particular the Council of Europe White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue entitled “Living Together in Equality and Dignity”. It is emphasized that at the present stage, various aspects of intercultural interaction are studied by a group of humanities: history, pedagogy, cultural studies, ethnopsychology, linguistics, communication studies, sociology of culture, ethnology, etc. Modern approaches to the definition of the conceptual apparatus of the study, in particular such concepts as “intercultural communication”, “intercultural competence”, “cultural diversity”, “interethnic communication” are revealed. Attention is drawn to the fact that in higher education institutions of Ivano-Frankivsk region an important source of intercultural knowledge is the study of the peculiarities of cultural diversity of the region in the interwar period of the twentieth century, in particular the artistic life of the Jewish community and the activities of Jewish amateur theaters. Based on historical sources, the characteristic features inherent in the inhabitants of Prykarpattia in the interwar period are highlighted, which contributes to the education of modern youth in a tolerant attitude towards representatives of other cultures. The conclusions are drawn about the need to further develop intercultural communication of students in the context of globalization and integration of education, expand university international exchange programs, academic mobility, scholarship programs, and involvement of students in international projects and initiatives that require effective communication skills with representatives of different cultural environments.
